Record as a Candidate

Before you start inviting candidates to an interview, you should test it yourself. Record as a Candidate lets you walk through the full candidate experience, from the welcome page to the final recording, so you can see exactly what candidates will see.

This is the fastest way to check your questions, branding, and settings before going live. Your test recording will not appear in your candidate list, so it won't get in the way later.

How to record as a candidate

  1. Go to the Interviews tab and open the interview you want to test.
  2. In the left-hand panel under Actions, click Record as Candidate.

The Interview Detail page in WedgeHR showing the Actions panel on the left side with the Record as Candidate button.

  1. A new tab opens with the candidate welcome page. This is the same page a candidate would see after clicking their invite link.

The candidate welcome page in WedgeHR showing company branding, the interview title, and a Get Started button.

  1. Click Get Started and record your responses to each question, just like a candidate would.
  2. When you finish recording, your responses are submitted. You can close the tab and return to Wedge.

What to expect during the recording

The experience matches the real candidate flow. You will:

  • See your company branding, intro video (if you added one), and interview title on the welcome page.
  • Watch each question before responding.
  • Follow the same think time, response length, and retake rules you set in your interview settings.
  • See the outro video (if you added one) after your final response.

If something looks off, you can go back and adjust your questions, branding, or settings before inviting candidates.

Where does the test recording go?

Your test recording shows up in your candidate list, you can view it anytime as you would any candidate's interview.

Tip: Run a test recording any time you update your questions, branding, or interview settings. It takes just a few minutes and saves you from surprises once candidates start responding.
